Elegant circa 1840 English blue and white transferware serving platter by Ridgway, featuring an elaborate scrolling foliate design in rich cobalt blue against a creamy white ground. The rectangular form has clipped corners, a gently scalloped outline and a broad border decorated with intricate acanthus scrolls and stylized floral motifs. A coordinating ornamental design fills the center, creating a beautifully balanced composition. The underside bears the blue printed “GRANITE CHINA W.R.S. & Co.” maker’s mark. The initials stand for William Ridgway, Son & Co., marking the era when William Ridgway partnered with his son, Edward John Ridgway, in Stoke-upon-Trent and Hanley.
