Pair of Early 19th Century French Directoire Period Painted Side Chairs with New Upholstery

Elegant pair of late 19th century French Directoire period painted side chairs with their original patina. Lovely curved seat backs are detailed with a hand carved urn at each back top and a stunning woven pattern in the center with gold medallions. The front legs are detailed with a striated pattern around the top and the rear legs curve gently outward "en sabres", which in English translates to "like sabers." One chair 5/8" taller than the other; perhaps as a custom "his and hers" pair. The seats are newly upholstered in a neutral high quality fabric that complements the vestiges of varied shades of paint. From Paris, France!
