The rectangular planter features a deep fitted liner above a finely paneled frieze, centered with an ornate gilt-bronze escutcheon motif that lends a subtle decorative flourish. Raised on beautifully turned and spiral-carved legs joined by shaped stretchers, the piece displays exceptional balance and craftsmanship characteristic of French decorative arts of the Napoleon III period.
