Pair of Monumental 19th Century French Carved Architectural Wood Church Altar Candlesticks with Barley Twist Columns, Almost 4 Feet Tall
Product Barcode Id: 96511193Exceptional pair of monumental 19th century French church altar candlesticks, standing almost four feet tall and featuring beautifully carved barley twist columns with an impressive architectural presence. Each candlestick rests on a substantial stepped square pedestal base with recessed panels and carved detailing, rising to an elaborately turned spiral column. The upper sections feature carved geometric panels, shaped baluster elements and broad circular candle platforms with decorative borders. The softly aged cream-painted finish reveals a wonderful patina that accentuates the intricate carving and sculptural proportions. Cracks in aged paint and some loss at the base commensurate with age; see photos. Originally intended for ecclesiastical use, these antique French church candlesticks make extraordinary decorative architectural accents for an entryway, mantel or large dining table. From a small town near Aix-en-Provence, France!
