These multicoloured transfer-printed lids were popular in the mid-19th century and were originally used as disposable containers for various products, such as bear's grease. They later became highly collectible due to their varied and interesting scenes. An attractive lid of medium size, depicting an intimate scene of family life in the mid 19th century.
