Bernard Harper Wiles (1883-1966) was born to a family of artists. His father was sculptor Henry Wiles, his grandfather sculptor/marble mason John Wiles. The youngest boy of nine children, his siblings include Walter (W.G.) Wiles and portrait painter Francis Frank Wiles. In his late twenties Bernard was in Burma. For at least two years, 1911-1913, he painted and taught art to Burmese men who would reach national acclaim for their work. In 1914 painted in the Middle East, North Africa and China. During the First World War, Bernard was an official war artist, mainly stationed in the Middle East. Seven of his paintings are held at the Imperial War Museum. Price includes shipping!
