French Pair of His & Hers Finely Carved Walnut Country French Lounge Armchairs King and Queen Carved Armchairs

Amazing pair of lounge chairs or Bergere armchairs made in the grand neoclassical Louis XVI taste! Distinctive restored pair of 19th century country French provincial Bergere armchairs crafted from walnut. Nearly identical made in a his and hers style with one chair being 1 inch taller on the back and having a larger floral crest on top. The gracefully curved back features an open exposed rear side. The generous seat is fitted with a loose, deep seat cushion and has a serpentine apron. When a pair of antique French chairs have one bigger than the other, it is "his and hers chairs", where one chair is designed to be slightly larger for a man and the very slightly smaller one for a woman, reflecting the typical size differences between genders in the time period they were made. This practice was common in the 18th and 19th centuries when furniture was often custom-made for specific individuals. Found in the South of France, these most likely custom made chairs with exquisite carving will add elegance to any room.
