French Listed Artist Fritz Muhsam (1880-1946) Oil Painting on Canvas "Portrait of a Woman"

    A superb 20th century oil painting by the listed Expressionist and Cubist artist, Fritz Muhsam (1880-1946). "Portrait of a Woman" is an oil on canvas portrait painting of a female figure's head directly facing the painter. The painting has excellent provenance and was bought in Paris, France. Fritz Mühsam was born on December 5, 1880 in Hamburg. He spent his youth in Berlin, where his father owned an oil painting factory, and where he studied painting. After his studies, he became an independent artist in Berlin, working summers in his studio in Fischerhude. Muhsam mainly painted portraits, landscapes and still lifes of Cubist or Expressionist influences. In 1927 he participated in the collective exhibition "European Art of the Present" in Hamburg. He is a full member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund with which he exhibits three times between 1928 and 1931. Mühsam eventually settled in Paris where he taught the art of modern painting. During the Second World War, Mühsam was interned in France. He died in Paris in 1946. This lovely painting, a wonderful example of his work, was exhibited at the Salon in 1925 and and was reframed in 2001; it is in very good and sound condition.
