Exceptional pair of antique French Neoclassical side chairs distinguished by finely executed geometric and floral inlay, decorative bronze embellishments and original pale beige cut velvet upholstery. The tall architectural backs feature shaped pediments outlined with delicate linear inlay, flanked by tapering uprights embellished with inlaid floral medallions and bronze foliate mounts at the crests. Additional geometric inlay continues down the back posts and across the lower rails. The seat aprons are particularly finely detailed, with contrasting linear banding, geometric marquetry and inset floral rosettes, all set against the warm figured walnut. Beuatifully curved front legs give the chairs an elegant sculptural profile and are further enriched with ornate bronze mounts extending along the feet and lower legs. The original pale beige cut velvet upholstery covers both the backs and generously proportioned seats, finished with closely spaced individual brass tacks that beautifully frame the textile. With their exceptional combination of French marquetry, fine wood inlay, bronze ornament, original cut velvet and Neoclassical architectural detailing, these sophisticated antique French chairs are as impressive for their craftsmanship as for their wonderfully graceful form.
