Early 19th Century American Painted Hitchcock-Style Side Chairs with Rush Seats and Gilt Stenciling
Product Barcode Id: 00009220Exceptional pair of early 19th century American painted side chairs with dark wood frames and beautifully preserved gilt and polychrome hand painted decoration. Dating to the early 1800s, the ladder backs feature elaborate classical floral, foliate and fruit motifs with fine gilt pinstriping continuing along the uprights, seat rails and turned legs. Both chairs have traditional woven rush seats, with one retaining its original early seat and the other fitted with a newer replacement seat. The richly aged painted surfaces, decorative stenciling and slender proportions are characteristic of early American Federal-era seating and Hitchcock-style furniture. A wonderful pair of antique Americana painted chairs, early 19th century side chairs, stenciled chairs and rush-seat chairs with exceptional decorative presence.
