Exceptional French game table, circa 1900, beautifully crafted with a richly figured parquetry top centered by an elaborate floral marquetry medallion framed by scrolling foliate inlay. Matching marquetry adorns all four sides of the shaped apron, ensuring the table is as beautiful from every angle as it is from above. The reversible top opens to reveal a newly felted playing surface and unfolds (and centers on the base) into a generous card table, while a concealed side drawer houses the original turned wood chess and backgammon pieces. Also included are the original playing cards and some later game additions found with the table. Raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating in gilt bronze sabots and accented with finely cast gilt bronze mounts, this remarkable table offers exceptional versatility as a center table, game table or occasional table.
