The "F" stands for Hippolyte Francois (1832-1927), both accomplished sculptors.
The vases depict fresh and salt water: the first with a frog on lily pads with pond reeds and irises, and the other with a crab, seaweed and ocean waves with a bird and tree branch, all in stunning intricate, stark high relief, true works of art!
Louis Moreau was born in Dijon, France in 1855 into a family of sculptors. He was the son of Auguste Moreau and brother of Hyppolyte Moreau. His uncles Marthurin Moreau and Hyppolyte-Francois Moreau were also sculptors. He was tutored by his father and also studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and also at the Exposition Universelle, winning a number of prizes. He specialized in allegorical and classical groups as well as well-known figures. Moreau went into partnership with his brother Hyppolyte for a time to produce decorative sculptures and created the L&F Moreau signature. His work can be found in the Perigord Museum of Art, France.
